IWAN OWAN – piano

Born in 1995, Iwan Owen hails from Anglesey, North Wales and began learning the piano at the age of 7. He studied with Iwan Llewelyn-Jones from the age of 9 until gaining a place to study at the Royal Northern College of Music from 2013, where he is now in his fourth year, studying with Benjamin Frith.

At the RNCM, Iwan has been awarded the Shirley Cattarall Award for achieving the highest mark in a first year piano recital, and has been a finalist in the Chopin Prize and the Concerto Competition. In February 2016, he reached the final stage of the Keyboard category at the Royal Overseas League Competition and, in 2014, won first prize at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod and the National Eisteddfod of Wales. He was also awarded Gregynog Young Pianist of the Year in 2013.

Iwan has participated in masterclasses given by renowned pianists including John Perry, Peter Frankl, Paul Badura-Skoda, Nelson Goerner, Pascal Rogé, Kathryn Stott and David Owen Norris. He is also resident pianist with North Wales Camerata, and, in 2016, was accepted onto the Live Music Now scheme.
