AMELIA COBURN – BBC Young Folk Awards Nominee
Teesside’s very own Amelia Coburn has had an incredible year so far, being nominated for the prestigious Young Folk Awards and selling out venues across the region as well as wowing audiences at gigs and festivals across the country and selling music around the world. She was booked to play Cambridge Folk Festival on the strength of her Folk Awards performance at the heats in January, regardless of the result.
With her trusted ukulele (and other surprises) she has built her reputation on her unique interpretations of classic, sophisticated vintage pop, Indie and new wave songs from the likes of The Smiths, The Specials, Kate Bush and David Bowie but has also begun to write and perform beguiling Jazz and Folk influenced original material.
Her voice and stage presence combine the expressive qualities of a musical theatre performer with a myriad other influences to captivate an audience like no other and at just 19 years old she is a major talent just scratching at the surface of her potential.
